Guidelines for Spring Pick-up

Pere Marquette Township's Spring pick-up is usually the second Saturday in May.  Each year, Allied Waste runs an ad in the Ludington Daily News detailing who can put out what kind of trash, when it can be put out, and any restrictions or extra fees involved.  Watch for that ad each year for the particulars.

In general, though...  here are some basic guidelines that almost never change:

Place items at curbside by 7:00 a.m. the day of collection.  Items may not be put out more than 5 days prior to the collection day.  Anything not accepted by Allied Waste must be removed by the owner not later than 48 hours after the day of collection.

Residential Collection: They will collect mixed refuse, in bags or boxes not to exceed 50 pounds each.

Bulky items -- Such as furniture, doors and windows, toilets, carpet and pad, railroad ties, stereos, fencing (pieces under 3' x 4') and posts (under 4' in length).  These would normally require a "Bulky Item" tag at an additional cost, however, these will be picked up at no charge during the Spring Clean up.

Non-freon appliances -- washers, dryers, water heaters, microwaves, stoves, televisions. These would normally require a "Non-freon Appliance" tag at an additional cost, however, these will be picked up at no charge during the Spring Clean up.

Freon Applicances -- Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers.  These require a "Freon Appliance" tag at an additional cost, however, the tags are discounted during the Spring Clean up.

Tires -- The environmental rules governing tires change frequently.  Please see the current year's ad in the paper or contact Allied Waste at 231/723-4850 for the current policy on disposal of tires.

NOT ALLOWED are waste materials from construction, demolition, remodeling, or repair operations, including but not limited to lumber, drywall, plaster and lath, roofing, concrete, brick, and cinderblock.  Vehicle parts, oil, paint, any liquids or chemicals are not acceptable.  Yard waste (leaves, branches, grass clippings) will not be collected, nor will any materials which are brought in from outside the Township.  Paint cans are acceptable ONLY if lids are removed and paint is dry.

Commercial Sites:  Spring Clean-up will also allow collection of bagged or boxed refuse from Commercial Sites, not to exceed 2 cubic yards.  Bulky items or anything over the 2 cubic yard limit will not be collected from Commercial locations.
